KJ4ERJ has developed a new Windows based APRS mapping program. The software uses open source mapping from Open Streets and if you download the National Weather Services shape files for zonal and county warning, you'll see those warning highlighted on the map and info on the warning. Great application, many features and you don't need to purchase a mapping application to have your area shown. You can even cache the map tiles for off line usage.

When I went out to Minnesota for my annual Vikings Game, I helped KG7QR (Don) in Minnesota Lakes get his APRSIS operational. KG0QR-10 and he is in a perfect spot to fill in a open area in southern Minnesota.

It was easy to set up and Don was happy to get his Igate working again. He runs APRS in his truck on his Verizon Cell Tower Tech job in SW Minnesota.

Don use to live in Helena and worked as a tech at KTVH and that is were I met him doing Camera work when I got off work at the Lottery. It was a nice break from a computer systems analyist to playing with TV equipment !!!!

Don and I have been going to our annual Vikings Game for about 10 years and always manage to tailgate with several thousand crazy Vikings fans and we fit right in !!! Hee Hee !!

It is always nice to see you on APRS. APRS rocks as it can do Weather Stations, APRS Link (Winlink), telemetry (Voltages Temperatures), Digipeatsd, station tracking, Igate to the internet, and messaging. Good stuff for EMCOMM.

I visited with Paul W7PG in Miles City as he has put up about 8 digi's in eastern Montana. He is going to add one at Hysham Hills when I get the one on Grizzly Peak in the spring. Paul has many Phoenix SX's and said if we need any for APRS, he has a pallet load !!! It was a nice visit and glad to see the interest by so many in eastern Montana hams thanks to Paul..

I was in Great Falls yesterday for a photography get together and gave you a call on the 74 repeater. Sure you were busy. I wanted to stay overnight and head out to Freeze Out Lake, but FWP said the geese have yet to arrive from the Artic...

I stopped by the Weather Station and seen the Ham Station and got a chance to meet all the new folks. I have not visited the NOAA WX for some time. They showed me the screen where they monitor my APRS WX along with many other Ham Weather stations around Montana. They do use it and that is cool !! Just another part of how diverse APRS is.

I stopped and visited with Dave Dobbins, K7GPS, in Cascade. Dave has been involved in APRS throughout the NW since about 2000 and he sure helped me get things going on APRS here in Montana. If you need any assistance or help with APRS, Dave is a good source of information in you area.

I loaded and tested the APRSIS software and it works well. I especially like the up to date maps and the ability to store them for offline operations. I will consider changing over down the road. For now, I will stay with my old APRS Plus SA and Delorme Street Atlas as it has been running for about 12 years !!!!

I had a nice phone call with the W7ECA Club President and i will make it up to a Saturday coffee get together. Thanks for the invite and explanation of who what when where and why? I was unaware..

I have APRSISCE passcode for APRS IS server access and I kinda like the program but will will test it a bit more before making a decision.

Nice chatting with you. As a reminder, we get together Saturday mornings at 9:00 AM at the Gold Dust Restaurant and Casino. Their address is 770 6th Street SW here in Great Falls. You will find 6th Street SW is also known as part of the "by-pass" used by truck traffic trying to get around Great Falls. The Gold Dust is not that far from the Fox Farm intersection, and is near the railroad track crossing. The building sits back from the road due to the parking lot being in front and along one side. It is also near the Wheat office building and the grain elevators (and is on the same side of the street).

Folks driving over to have breakfast are usually monitoring the 146.740 MHz repeater between 8:30 AM and 9:00 AM. My schedule has not allowed me to attend very often, but I hope to see you sometime.
