Hi Bob,
Did you check out the mention of Amateur Radio in Chapter 9? We have been discussing the listing of 146.540 MHz as an "official" ARES simplex frequency, along with 146.520 and 446.000 MHz. No one seems to know where 146.540 came from or who is using it in Montana. The ARRL leans towards the use of 146.550 MHz and has used it on the earlier graphics for the "When All Else Fails" logo.
The discussion, along with the 2011 MT Mutual Aid manual, can be found under "Amateur Radio Emergency Service (ARES)" / "North Central Montana ARES Group" / "ARES Files".
In your travels around the state do you monitor specific repeaters, or do you have your rig in scan mode? I'm curious how much activity you have observed on 146.520 MHz.

Yes I do have .52 in the scan, but I don't hear much on it. Sometimes I'll hear people that are transiting through the area but that's about it.
