Howdy gang,
Winlink has been updating all there software to allow password login and testing to PMBO's, APRS Link, and RMS Packet. Some time next year winlink will require password log in on all platforms.
I have my RMS Packet EMCOMM station K7MT-10 on 145.010 password required. I have set up the password for KM7DES at Ft Harrison. I contacted Ed K6EN and he said it is ok to password require the MARS station at Ft. Harrison. I also contacted the Capital City Amateur Radio Club W7TCK president Tom and he will grant a password for the 3 ARES sites RMS Express packet stations.
There are two steps to setting up your password. 1 Login in to www.winlink.org site and set up an account with you callsign and password. In the account section you can select secure login (Password Required). 2. In you Winlink program there is a option in the settings to add a password. I you use a simple terminal program to log into a winlink server, you will be get a prompt with 3 numbers. Read instructions at www.winlink.org on how to enter your password using the series of 3 numbers to gain access to a winlink CMS Server.
Enjoy and Cheers Bill Erhardt
