UZ7HO Software Modem Update

Post by K7MT »

Howdy gang,

For those of you that do soundcard modes, UZ7HO has released a update Ver .71 to better interface the APRS Messenger Program. I use it here with my Signalink USB as the SM71 version does 300 - 1200 baud packet for vhf to HF. The GRUH96 version of the software does 9600 and 19,200 baud packet for vhf or uhf. Pretty solid software that is about equal in performance to most hardware tnc's. I use it for 300 baud packet for APRS (K7MT-11) and the four digital APRS modes (K7MT-12) on 10147.620. With the APRS messenger it does both at the same time.

Hi gang, I discovered the SM71b version does 300, 600, 1200, and 2400 baud packet and I tested all the speeds. Pretty neat for a software modem and a sound card interface.

Howdy gang - I had a nice talk with Larry N7YET in Dillon, Mt. earlier this evening about the UZ7HO software modem. Larry is just amazed at how good the software performs. He said it decoded better than any of his hardware tnc's. He did a couple tests with KB7KSU and they were both amazed at its performance.

I have been using this software for a couple years and it is nice to hear reports like Larry's that confirm my experience with the UZ7HO software modem with a sound card interface.

Hi gang, I was chatting with Andrei UZ7HO via the VHF 145.010 FM <> HF 14105 LSB Crossband packet station at the DES earlier today. Andrei told me he had a update Ver .78 to his Packet Sound Card Modem software. He added some new modes 300, 600, 1200 BPSK along with the regular AFSK 300, 600, 1200, 2400 baud modems.

Andrei also added several Manchester Hi speed modes to the HS version of his sound modem software. It was renamed hs_soundmodem.zip and still has the 9600 and 19,200 baud modems.

He also added the Hamilton Area Packet Network (HAPN) 4800 baud modem which was developed by the Canadian Amateurs in Hamilton Ontario.

Link to the sound card modem software soundmodem78.zip and the hs_soundmodem.zip.

I am looking forward testing these new hi speed modes using a sound card interface that can be made for very little or purchased. Have fun everyone if you enjoy this part of the hobby. I am just having way to much fun learning and at my age that can be a challenge.

Hi Jim,

You bet cha !!!! I have been having so much fun learning with the UZ7HO software modem. Especially copying the data downlink for Montana State University's satellite that is doing the earths magnetic belt experimentation and data collection. Woo Hoo !!!

I am no expert for sure and know very little about the technical aspects of Packet. I am a JAFO ( Just another ....... Operator) using the wonderful tools other very knowledgeable and very smart hams around the world have provided. They are the true experts but they sure make ham radio fun as it is meant to be.

Enjoy the software modem when you have time. You have your priorities correct, family, work, home, and then the hobby. Thanks for all you do keeping up this excellent web page to help spread the fun !! Woo Hoo !!

Howdy gang,

You know, i have been using the UZ7HO software modems with other programs (APRSIS32, APRS Messenger, UIView, UISS) and forgot about using is like a regular tnc to connect to packet nodes, bbs, etc. Well, right there on UZ7HO's home page is a program called EZTerm (Easy Terminal)and is a companion to software modems programs. It has connect, mh,disconnect etc and i just used it to send Larry N7YET a Winlink message W7XY VHF 1200 baud RMS Packet Station in Great Falls via W7TCK-2 and W7ECA-3 Nodes. I then switched it to 300 baud HF and connected to KB9SOZ-7 in Wisconsin on the 14105 Network. Woo Hoo !!

It is a simple straight forward easy to use packet terminal program for UZ7HO's modem software. Enjoy !!
