Thanks for the new trivia question Gene! I have the answer to the first part of your question, however I will just give the decade and see if someone else wants to chime in. The first transistor was made in the 1940's. Can someone narrow this down a bit and even include the names of the individuals who accomplished this amazing discovery?

OK since no one will do this, I will finish the first part. In 1947, John Bardeen and Walter Brattain, working at Bell Telephone Laboratories discovered the transistor.
